Senna leaves mainly contain sennoside A, B, C, D, chrysophanol glucoside, emodin glucoside, emodin glucoside, aloe emodin glucoside, emodin - 8-O-sophora glycoside and other anthraquinone glycosides.

Function

1.  Cathartic effect
This product has a significant purging effect on mice, rats, rabbits and other animals and people, mice and rabbits diarrhea at 2-4b after the drug, human diarrhea about 6h after oral administration. Sennoside A has the strongest purgative effect, while sennoside C has A similar purgative effect with A but little content. Sennoside A20mg/kg can cause diarrhea in mice. However, if 20% C is mixed into A, the effect of senna A can be increased by 1.6 times. Sennoside can be partially absorbed in the small intestine, and then enter the large intestine through blood flow or bile, and mainly enter the large intestine directly from the small intestine. Under the action of intestinal bacteria, it is hydrolyzed, reduced and changed into rHUbaranthrone or rhubaranthrone-8-glucoside. Since direct injection of rHUtaneanthrone did not affect the purging effect, and the production of rhutaneanthrone was significantly reduced in the intestine, it was believed that rhutaneanthrone was the real component of sennose-induced purging. 2.  Hemostasis
Effective for gastric and duodenal bleeding. In addition, the protective effect of Senna leaf on gastric mucosal injury induced by hydrochloric acid and indomethacin is also beneficial to the prevention and treatment of gastric and duodenal hemorrhage.

3.  Antibacterial effect
Senna leaf extracts can inhibit a variety of bacteria, such as Escherichia coli, Proteus, dysentery bacillus, A streptococcus as well as candida albicans and some pathogenic skin fungi.

4.  Other functions
For experimental rats with intestinal obstruction, intraperitoneal injection of sennoside 50mg/kg can restore the reduced level of intestinal mucosa histamine to normal level. In addition, it has been reported that this product has a curcumin-like effect, can block the transmission of nerve - muscle joint impulse, prevent the combination of acetylcholine and M receptor and make muscle relaxation.
